Ruffian (horse)
Ruffian (April 17, 1972 – July 7, 1975) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse who won ten consecutive races, including the Acorn Stakes, Acorn, Mother Goose Stakes, Mother Goose and Coaching Club American Oaks, then known as the Triple Tiara of Thoroughbred Racing, American Triple Tiara. She was in the lead at every point of call in every race she ever ran and set new stakes records in each of the eight stakes races she won. Her dominating wins caused her to be named the Eclipse Award, American Champion filly at both ages American Champion Two-Year-Old Filly, two and American Champion Three-Year-Old Filly, three. In July 1975, she entered a highly anticipated match race with Kentucky Derby winner Foolish Pleasure, in which she broke down with two broken bones in her right foreleg. Surgery was attempted but Ruffian reacted poorly and exacerbated the injuries while coming out of anesthesia. As a result, she was Animal euthanasia, euthanized. ''Ruffian'' is a 2007 American television film that tells the story of the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame, U.S. Racing Hall of Fame Eclipse Award, Champion Thoroughbred filly Ruffian (horse), Ruffian who went undefeated until her Animal euthanasia, death after breaking down in a nationally televised match race at Belmont Park on July 6, 1975 against the Kentucky Derby winner, Foolish Pleasure. Made by ESPN Original Entertainment, the film is directed by Yves Simoneau and stars Sam Shepard as Ruffian's horse trainer, trainer, Frank Y. Whiteley Jr., Frank Whiteley. The producers used four different geldings in the role of Ruffian. Locations for the 2007 film included Louisiana Downs in Shreveport, Louisiana and Belmont Park in Elmont, New York. Rockstar Dundee Limited (formerly Ruffian Games Limited) is a British video game developer and a studio of Rockstar Games based in Dundee. The studio is best known for developing '' Crackdown 2''. Gary Liddon, Billy Thomson, and Gareth Noyce founded the company as Ruffian Games in April 2008. They had previously worked on '' Crackdown'', with Thompson as its lead designer while at Realtime Worlds. Ruffian Games immediately partnered with Microsoft for ''Crackdown 2'', being chosen over Realtime Worlds. Released in 2010, the game did not sell well enough to allow for a third ''Crackdown'' game and Ruffian Games joined co-development projects, including several Kinect games, to stay afloat.
